The outbreak of COVID-19 pandemic has affected the finances of most charities in the UK. The restriction of movement and cancellation of charities fundraising programs to a greater extent affect the financial operations of most charities.

Hope Spring 5k fun run scheduled to be held on the 17th of May was cancelled, this is one among many charity fundraising events that were cancelled as a result of the virus. Many charities carry out their activities by the gathering of people, this is no longer possible having a huge impact on the income. The London Marathon which raised over £66.4 million for thousands of charities last year was cancelled.

To sustain the charity sector, the organiser of the biggest mass sports events across the country came together to create a new campaign to raise vital funds to assist fundraising, to enable recovery and save the UK charities.

The 2.6 Challenge campaign will launch on Sunday 26 April 2020 and will last for a week. It’s replacing the date of the 40th London Marathon. The 2.6 challenge is open to everyone of any age. However, the activity must follow government guidelines on social distancing and exercise, and it should be done locally.

From Sunday 26 April, we are asking you to dream up an activity based around the number 2.6 or 26 and fundraise by donating on our Virgin Money Giving Page.

The 2.6 challenge can be done in any way that works for you. You can challenge yourself to take a walk or run, Climb your stairs 26 times, play your favourite music and dance for 26 minutes, climb a rock, 26-minute yoga or jumping rope. Have fun, get active while raising fund to save the UK charities

“For many of the UK’s charities, the lockdown period coincides with the time of the year most their fundraisers are very active, especially smaller charities.” said Temi Odurinde, Chair of the board of trustees of Hope Spring. “naturally, we have had to cancel our annual 5K fun run, and our participation in Hereford River Carnival, which was scheduled for the end of May’.

We hope the 2.6 challenge participation will help in a great way to raise funds for Hope Spring Water and other charities so that they can keep helping the most vulnerable and making the world a better place.
